so this afternoon i took a nap as i do many days since UPS makes you tired all the time.

I had a dream.

It is unusual that i remember my dreams ever since i can remember which is sort of funny, remembering not remembering.  In the dream myself, the wife and many other faceless people are somewhere undisclosed, somewhere cold though.  We are there to try and relocate and save a herd of wild horses.  They are smaller than domestic horses, due to the lack of modified food, but they have an undeniable spirit and strength that make them worthy of the attention being paid.  They are unusually trusting of us coming closer than you would imagine a wild horse would, following our guidance.  A sever wind storm is approaching and we set up camp, a large revival-style tent with smaller tents within to aid in keeping oneself a little warmer and protected.  A majority of the horses are within the tent seeking shelter as well, some running in and out for whatever reason they have.  No concern really, just try and keep the tent flaps low, thanks.  Before going to sleep everyone is sitting around hanging out or doing what people do for whatever reason they have.  Nikki and i are sitting together and i look over and it's Tony Hawk sitting with what appears to be a large leopard that is white with purpley-blue spots.  i brilliantly utter, "Hey, you're Tony Hawk."  He nods and a small smile as though he's gone through with the expedition so far unrecognized, even with the leopard which evidently doesn't spook the horses.  Referring to his companion I ask Tony, "Hey, what kind of dog is that?"  Now as stated, this looks nothing like a dog so the source of my question is a mystery.  Tony: "It's actually a Double Lion."

A DOUBLE LION.

i turn and a woman i work with is sitting behind me with her 2 year old daughter and she points to the beast and says "Look, a Double Lion!"  still sitting, i now realize there is a strange girl bending over from my back so that she appears upside down.  She is massaging my shoulders and then does some sort of hypnotizm and gives me something, some sort of small piece of paper.  I am unsure of what this is.  in my hypnotic state i am swaying my head nodding and it is now that i wake up...in my dream.

I was dreaming...within...a...dream.

Awake, within my dream, i am on some sort of natural swing in the jungle.  This explains the nodding, swaying sensation.  I reach up and there is a bird-eating spider, toward my feet some monkies playing, if i remember right.  Then I wake up.

Ever really looked at a little toe?  I mean, really looked at it?

This weekend is Pekin, Steamboat, wedding, and hopefully bikes.

I had to do my BFA review and was accepted as a printmaking major.  It was really weird though, the criticism I received was 90% negative...And I'm not sure why they accepted me...I may change, double or minor in Zoology though.  I'm sort of having panic attacks about it.  Hooray.....

This grown up stuff really isn't fun...

HOWEVER, I can't stop watching the trailer for Where The Wild Things Are.  I've been looking forward to this for a couple of years now and am really excited to finally get to see it (you know, in 7 months...).

This weekend brings another trip to Peoria that I can't afford time wise.  Taking three studio classes is stressful.

Hey hey!

Well, Nikkers and I went on our little vacation last week and we had a good
time.  The plane rides there were smooth enough, no delays and all.  I don't
think Nikki or I are particularly fond of flying, but not to a point that we
can't do it.  The time is saves is great, it's just an unnerving feeling.
We got up Sunday and drove to DC and headed straight for the zoo which was
good.  I have mixed emotions on zoos as a whole but the DC one was nice and
seems to be always improving.  We then found our hotel and walked to get
some diner at an Eritrean restuarant called Dahlak.  It's similar to
Ethiopian I'm told, most notably in the way it is eaten.  There are no
utensiles, you use a bread called ingara that is kind of spoungy and flat.
From what I've heard, a lot of Northern African countries have many
vegetarian/vegan dishes, so we shared a platter of appetizers and it was
great.  Afterwords Nikki and I walked around town, me having never been to
DC just to see what's what.  After walking up the street a little while we decided to double back and walk all the way down to the Mall and the Whitehouse.  It had to be about 9 at night at this point and we passed so many neat embassies and the National Geographic Society and finally as we approached the park in front of the Whitehouse we see flashing lights and cops and trailers...We keep walking and the police (who seem a bit annoyed) say that Angelina Jolie is in town filming some new movie.  The flashing lights were a set up and they were filming fake news casts.  we found this out later when walking back up, we realized they had to re-shoot a scene because we were strolling around while the guy was saying "This is NOT a secure location..."..whoops.

The next day we did most of the touristy things...Washington Monument, Smithsonian, Capital Building, Lincoln Memorial...etc...but it was great.  I think you'd have to live there to really be able to take it all in.  In front of the Whitehouse were several different protests including one featuring Tibetans and supporters which coincided with protests being held all over the world.  Really neat.

We then went back to Newport News.  The next day we went to Yorktown and saw Revolutionary War battlefields and old buildings and such..The follwowing day we hit the beachfront and the Aquarium in Norfolk.  Both were pretty great.

After that we took a day off and worked on different things and kind of relaxed.  I got new running shoes and we took Kurt to see Watchmen, which was pretty great.  The following day we went back to Norfolk to the Chrysler Museum which was awesome.  They had a huge glass collection which included everything from current artists to first century Roman glass.  They had some really great multicultural exhibits down stairs, then tons of western art from about the 15th century on.  The one thing that really stuck out to me in all of the was the set of Albrecht Durer prints.  Really fantastic.

The way home was a bit more adventuresome.  We were scheduled to leave at 730pm and the plane was there at 730, however due to weather in Atlanta we couldn't leave until 930.  We get to Atlanta and immediately board our plane to St. Louis.  We finally  arrive in StL at 1230.  We managed to catch a shuttle (even though the cab-seller-guy told us they stopped at 1030 and it was a mile or two walk to the parking lot...) and hit the road.  Finally about 20 minutes from home we manage to hit a deer.  I felt really bad because Nikki was really freaking out and because we hurt the deer.  We didn't kill her but her leg was definetly hurt.  The car is ok, needs some insurance-covered work, and we're fine so i guess that's all good.

that's our trip.  right now we're also planing to go to Disney in May and Belize in August (Cockscomb!!!!!!!!).

sooo we watched  Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist and i thought it was really good.  not  a huge plot or climax or anything, but still a really good story.

Nikkers and I leave tomorrow to go spend the week with my Mom and brother in Virginia.  We're going to go to DC for a few days and kind of just hang out.  Running a lot is high on the list and hopefully get some homework done.

aside from my friends, the thing i miss the most is having a race, within 20 miles, to run nearly every weekend.  It's hard to appreciate that until  you don't have it.  in the big scheme, of coarse it's not important and of coarse i don't need to spend ~$20 every week just to go run, but it's such a great experience.  i like to give people nicknames (gotta beat Long Hair....ok, catch up to Red Pants...) and start out a little conservative, because most people go all crazy like it's a race to the bottom of the hill, nevermind that you have 2 3/4 miles left (depending on the race) so the good feeling of passing while not being passed is almost always there.  I'm not really all that competitive, but it would probably suck to have a million people pass you.  along the same lines is lining up where you actually will run your miles.  if you run 8 minute miles, you don't need to be up with the cats running 6's.  you'll just be in the way at the start...geez.....

it's weird to realize you're such a nerd about things.  i mean.  no one cares about how i feel about racing...hm...sort of like one day somebody asked/said that marathons were 26 miles....somehow, i felt the need to say "well,...26.2 actually...."  geez....

school is going ok...that's the best way to put anything going on here in Carbondale.  i did get a print accepted into an juried art show so that's kind of cool....i'm printing posters for Scouts Honor this weekend and i'm really excited about the image so far...we'll see how she turns out, yeah?

my wife is ultra-encouraging and i don't think i'd still be doing school and work if it weren't for her, good or bad as it is...

achem...while in the bathroom at work:

gentleman 1: (to gentleman 2) "Better go stock up on ammo..."
gentleman 2: "yep"
gentleman 1: "ol' Hussien's gonna take it all away"

sounds of approval and agreement.

me shaking my head, thinking "...really?!"

despite the apathetic face i put on, i'm really excited to have voted and who i voted for.  i'm really anxious/excited to see how this all unfolds.

this life thing is kind of crappy.  i mean, the responsible part of it all.  all i really tend to do i have little baby panic attacks and sleep.  not productive.

the last Loved Ones "Build and Burn" and Bridge and Tunnel "East/West" are both really good and may finally knock Lawrence Arm's "Oh! Calcutta!" off the coveted Record of the Year podium.  It's been there since '06.

huh?  oops.

- I've accepted a job as a Part-Time Preload Supervisor at UPS.  gulp.

- MxPx and Lagwagon were great.  TAT and Only Crime opened up.  TAT was bad and uninspired/ing, Only Crime was really good with little crowd reaction.  I really expected for there to be a lot more people there but i had a good time.

Had to get a shot on Friday.  Evidently that's a big deal to SIUC.  It wasn't that bad but i still felt the need to complain about it, joking mostly.  Just a hassle since i know how i react to needles.  Interesting that tattoos (legit and non-legit-dan-cox's-basement) don't do this to me.

School's keeping me busy which is good and bad.  i can't find a job which is really bumming me out.  Nikki is working a crappy job she doesn't like to support us and i'm just a leech.  She is wonderful though and for our anniversary she got me a ticket to MxPx/Lagwagon on Tuesday which brings me to....

MXPX and LAGWAGON on Tuesday!!!

Art projects are fun and rewarding.  School projects sometimes fun, sometimes rewarding.

too much time on these sites being upset that I still work at the deli and am still in school.
I do have a bunch of projects that should keep me busy the next few weeks though so that's good so long as I keep on task...

New(er) Aesop Rock is killer.

I just starred at this dude kiss this girl.  Weirdo.

She's totally outta his league.

The other night in class my teacher was showing us cross-contour (which I deemed mildly useful) and she started by drawing a square.  "This is a square.  Then you make it 3-d by adding lines that go back like this."  She then demonstrated how to make a square look 3-d which is something that most people know.  One kid who told me tonight that he had pottery in high school and that's it as far as art classes go said to himself, but still out loud "oh!  that's how you do it!".  A couple of dudes around him laughed but I really liked seeing someone learn something.  He really just got it and it clicked and it was great.

bang-a-rang.

the wife.com and I are flying to VA this weekend on my parents' tab.  A+ for a few days of nothing.  C+ for missing 4 days of work.

warmer/drier weather equals skateboarding!

that really just equals embarrassment and frustration, but i'm down.
